Sumarliði R. Ísleifsson codirige à l’Académie de Reykjavik (Islande) le projet de recherche «Iceland and Images of the North». Il est spécialiste en imagologie, en histoire de l’art et des mentalités, et il a publié des ouvrages sur l’Islande, dont un des plus importants consacrés à l’histoire des images de l’Islande depuis le Moyen Âge jusqu’au milieu du 19e siècle (Island framandi land, 1996).
